The number of overweight and obese teenagers in the UK has doubled in the last two decades, with nearly one in five fifteen year olds now classed as obese.

Nationally accredited qualifications have been developed to provide the knowledge and skills to those wishing to teach safe and effective physical activity to children through a wide range of activities such as parachute games, relays, ball skills and 'make believe' type activities for the under 5's. But what do we have to offer our teenagers?

Active IQ has been working with Dawn Fairey of Mojo Training to create a nationally recognized qualification which deals with the growing problem.
Mojo Training was also commissioned by DC Leisure to assist with changes to their Junior Gym policies to accept younger aged teenagers into their gyms by devising a training course for their staff. This qualification fully ensures the existing fitness instructors understood the physiological and psychological implications of teenagers working out in the gym.

Active IQ has recently developed a syllabus which is aimed at teaching activities to under 5's. Active IQ worked together with Mojo Training to develop the new syllabus which was piloted through the Huntingdon’s Children's Centre in January.

It will compliment a successful local project which has inspired families to eat well. The first course was run for frontline staff working in local early years settings and was a great success.

The Qualification was funded through Huntingdon’s Children’s centre, led by Cambridgeshire County Council and focuses on preventative work by integrating services for young children and their families.

Following the success of the Under 5’s Qualification, we wish the same great success with their new venture with Mojo Training in November when they return to Huntingdon to deliver the Active IQ Certificate in Teaching Physical Activity to Children (aged 5 - 11) to Primary School Teachers and classroom assistants.
